Folly Proof

After several months of hiatus, and many meals later, I found myself feeling quite sad about neglecting my Food Findings blog. Fortunately, the dark ages have passed, and I'm now back in action looking for all local and out-of-the-way nooks to strike my delicate (but not so picky) palate.

Thus, it is only fitting to start your day with an 'absurd' serving of the newest hole-in-the-wall to grace the ever congested Howell Mill Rd area. Findings followers - meet Tom's Folly.

Just as the name might speak for itself, this lovely little spot is quite the opposite of charming. While the patio has potential, and the bar is always full of locals, the inside is a hot mess.

Get Into the Grind

Killer Good Burger
Today is a very special first for my Food Findings blog. My good friend Josh Stowell (@J_Stow on Twitter) and my boyfriend Will get all the credit for this yummy lunchtime "Grind" edition, which also goes by the name of the Grindhouse Killer Burger.

No Dunkin' Needed

Just a Couple of Eggs at the Donut Hole
Would you take a look at those hashbrowns! And those eggs! Although my posts have been slightly few and far between the past week or so, I have good reason - Food Findings research of course.

For the first time in close to a year, I took a beach vacation. Fortunately, the weather was perfect and my palate was ready and willing to taste everything the good 'ole Florida panhandle could throw at me. Thankfully, I snagged this pic from my first (and only) trip to the tried and true, Donut Hole Bakery Cafe.

Not a Last Resort

Stawberry and Chocolate Cream Pancake Appetizer

As I mentioned in my Food Findings post "Speaking Easy", my quick trip to Athens, Ga this weekend proved to be as much a reason to eat at my favorite spots than anything else.

Behold, my tying pick for top Athens brunch find, the always hipster, always amazing, and always a top choice: Last Resort Grill.

Speaking Easy

This past weekend, I managed to pull myself away from the Atlanta food scene and found myself eating, drinking, and dancing with friends in Athens, GA!

I only stayed one night, which meant I had to consolidate for meals and places that I haven't visited in a long time. One of my most favorite places to go when in Athens is the quirky but awesome Speakeasy tapas bar.

Elevate Your Winesday

Personally, I find my Winesday posts to be one of, it not my most favorite topic to write about for this blog. No, I don't only think about wine (Kathie Lee and Hoda!), It's simply fun sharing my Winesday Food and Booze Finding because mid week is a great day to experience new eat and drink spots. Let's "fly" through the introduction nonsense and get to the good stuff.

Elevation ChopHouse and SkyBar is located in Kennesaw, Ga, and is a wonderful restaurant and bar that sits on the McCullom airport overlooking the runway! I had the pleasure of my first visit there last week, and let me tell you, I will be back before you can say "take off!".

Patio Perfect

One of the Best Patios in Virginia Highlands - Osteria 832
Monday madness rolled right on through yesterday, and proved to me that the first day of the week isn't always so bad. Why this sudden change of heart? Primarily because I found myself enjoying three of the five things I love to do the most.

In no specific order I managed to spend time with some of my closest friends, eat great, light Italian food, while sitting outside no less! Osteria 832, located in the heart of the Virginia Highlands neighborhood, is a regular spot for locals, out of towners, and brunch enthusiasts.

Social Status

Social Vinings : More Like Socialize Vinings

Tired of that groundhogs day feel that comes around every Monday? I have the perfect solution for you. Take a quick peek for food and drink at Social Vinings.

Owned and run by the respected culinary dominatrix Paul (of the former Pano's and Paul's) and his son Patrick, Social Vinings is another feat for Paul and his Great Food Group Inc., but not for all the reasons you think!

The Final Tab for Marietta Week: Barfest

When word gets out of a place in town that serves great cocktails and draft beer for cheap prices - inevitably that same place will be flooded with patrons before you can say, "what's on tap?" A truly rare place to find is one that maintains the status quo of a great bar, doesn't burn a hole in my wallet, and feels as if no one has really "discovered" it yet.

Well my friends, there are actually some places like this around. Fortunately, I have picked my top three Marietta bars for the conclusion of this weeks Food Findings Extravaganza.

Rounding Out Marietta Week: Food First

Olala, j'adore le Cafe Crepe

This past weekend opened my eyes to all the food findings Marietta, Georgia has to offer. As a native, I already knew many of the best places in town, but felt the need to revisit them with a fervor only food nerds would appreciate.

While there are so many to choose from, I decided to narrow your food hunting search down. Here is my top Three Food Finding List for the stand outs of my Marietta excursion 2011:

A Niks to Remember

Nik's Place, Marietta Ga.
If that kinky chicken gyro doesn't scream delicious, I don't know what does? To kick off my Marietta Food Findings weekend recap, I figured I would start with a true hole-in-the-wall and definite Marietta staple, Nik's Place.

This American-Greek inspired restaurant has been a mainstay for Mariettan's for years now, and it's not just the food that keeps this place bumpin'. Located off Whitlock Avenue in the heart of Marietta, and about a mile from the Square, Nik's is known for gyros, beer, music, unexplained dancing, and most importantly... hummus!

Bring On the Brew

Muss and Turners Outside View - Perfect for Week Night Brew
In an effort to not exclude my brew lovers, I felt it necessary to follow yesterday's "Winesday" with a post that has a little more hop to it. Five o'clock is quickly approaching and I wanted to send out a quick reminder to all those beer fans out there that Muss and Turner's offers Thursday night Beer Tastings!

As I mentioned in my "What's All the Muss About?" post, this Symrna food staple offers more than just good food and service, they take pride in liquid education as well. And what could beat that you say? The price of course!

Welcome Back Winesday

I will start this post by introducing my favorite day of the week; "Winesday", Wednesday, or as many like to call it "Hump Day". Personally, Wednesdays remind me that the week is coming to a close, yet there is still time to squeeze in whatever you need to do before COB Friday.

Most importantly, Wednesday presents the perfect day to kick back, crack open a box of wine, and enjoy mid-week. I felt it necessary to give a special shout out to an often over-looked, often looked-down upon form of wine, the kind that comes out of a box.

Big Chicken Extravaganza!

Marietta's Famous Landmark - The Big Chicken

Exciting news for Food Findings followers! I have decided that in order to accurately report food, brew, and foodie news, I must work my way around the metro Atlanta area in sections.

This weekend, I will start with All Things Food in the beautiful city of Marietta! Why start there you ask? For one, I was born and raised in Marietta, many of my family members still live there, and finally, because there are wonderful known and unknown places in this town that people should experience.

What's All the Muss About?

Where Symrna Meets Vinnings at Muss & Turners

This past Sunday turned out to be Sunny with a high of 70 something. Besides taking a walk, what should one do with such a beautiful afternoon? Why eat outside of course!

I Would Fry Anything Once

The Bravo TV show, Top Chef, has to be one of my favorite melodramatic, food related shows on the air.  I have been following this series since its beginning and want to share with you a clip from last weeks "Quick Fire" challenge. (To view video click on Paula and Padma!)

The Sweet Brew

My First IPA at Sweetwater Brewery Since Last Summer (2010)
Personally, I can't claim that I am always in-the-know about the best hang-outs, or food spots in town. However, I can say that I do know quite a few of them. Case in point, last Friday's adventure to the Sweetwater Brewery in Midtown Atlanta.

For those of you who may not drink beer (or drink at all), the Sweetwater Brewery opens its doors Monday-Friday 530-730 PM for tours and tastings, all at a reasonable price of 8 dollars (for 8 tickets).

Foodies Rejoice, Holeman and Finch Exists

Atlanta's Best Burger, Holeman and Finch
Would you take a look at that burger. For almost two years now I have known and treasured the beauty that is the H&F burger. For those of you who are not familiar with Holeman and Finch please refer to their website.

*Disclaimer* If for some reason locally grown fare, public house style seating and feasting doesn't suit your fancy, I would suggest moving on to one of my other posts. For everyone else, read more after the jump!

THE Taco Joint in Atlanta

Taqueria Del Sol's Cheeseburger Taco. $3.00 Worth of Amazing
For my first Food Findings post, I wanted to jump right to one of my favorite places in Atlanta to eat. Taqueria Del Sol has to be Atlanta's newest and most reliable addition to "taco stand" style establishments.

With only 3 locations in the greater Atlanta area and one in Athens, Ga., Taqueria boasts quick service, cheap prices, and amazing food.

What is Food Findings?

That's Me! Your Food Findings Atlanta Guide
Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Lindsay Barbour and I am this close to being finished with my undergraduate degree from Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia. I was born and raised in Marietta, GA., and have a love for fun, food, adventure, and time well spent.

I am now a full time employee in the Office of Alumni Affairs at KSU (and loving it!) and am realizing the value of great food and friends.
