Rounding Out Marietta Week: Food First

Olala, j'adore le Cafe Crepe

This past weekend opened my eyes to all the food findings Marietta, Georgia has to offer. As a native, I already knew many of the best places in town, but felt the need to revisit them with a fervor only food nerds would appreciate.

While there are so many to choose from, I decided to narrow your food hunting search down. Here is my top Three Food Finding List for the stand outs of my Marietta excursion 2011:

Starting off my list is the ever so popular, somewhat French-style bistro, Sugar Cakes. Located just a hop skip and a jump from the uber-popular Simpatico and Willie Rae's titans, Sugar Cakes does what many others have tried but not quite pulled off; fabulous food without fabulous service.

Now, I know that sounds kind of mean, but honestly, I have never had one meal there that was not way better than I expected, yet - I have never had great service or thought, "hey this hostess is really on top of it today."

Aside from the minor seating/serving issue, Sugar Cakes rolls out some of the best and cleanest egg dishes, croissant sandwiches, and granola cereals in town. Light, slightly sweet, and delicious. Want more? Wait till the weather warms up, the sidewalk seating is live and waiting for epic after church crowd people watching!

While I have already mentioned one semi-French restaurant, I feel it completely justified to add one more to my "Top of" list. Why you might ask? Mainly because this gourmet crepe corner puts to shame some of the other overly hyped Marietta Square establishments. I have only been there once, and that one time was all it took to place Le Cafe Crepe on my list of "must visit".

Hidden behind the hit or miss sushi restaurant Thaicoon, this "square" gem offers more than just crepes and fancy French names, the real treat is hidden in the flavor packed in each bite. From quiche to crepes and bisque that is heavenly, there is really only one thing I can say about Le Cafe Crepe - Bon Appetit y'all!

Crepes Never Looked This Good
One of the things that I love about Marietta is how far you can seemingly drive... and still be in the city limits! Case in point, one of my all time, steadfast, must eat establishments, Lemon Grass.

I have an affinity for great Thai food, and as you will discover in my Buckhead Findings roundup (coming soon!), there are many amazing Thai places in Atlanta proper to choose from. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case with Marietta.

Here lies the exception - Lemon Grass. True to its name, my most favorite dish to eat at this homey and inviting restaurant is indeed, lemon grass (with chicken or shrimp). Located on Roswell road about 15 minutes from the Marietta Square, this undercover Thai mainstay will not disappoint. So if you're plum wine or spicy noodle hankering can't be mended with the same ole dollar sushi night, take a quick drive to Lemon Grass, it'll knock your socks off.

Thai Never Looked This Good

Keep looking for more posts to come this week! I have plans to visit Elevation (Kennesaw), Little Bangkok (Buckhead), Social Vinings (duh, Vinings), and so much more! Stay tuned, because your next great meal might be a blog post away!
