The Final Tab for Marietta Week: Barfest

When word gets out of a place in town that serves great cocktails and draft beer for cheap prices - inevitably that same place will be flooded with patrons before you can say, "what's on tap?" A truly rare place to find is one that maintains the status quo of a great bar, doesn't burn a hole in my wallet, and feels as if no one has really "discovered" it yet.

Well my friends, there are actually some places like this around. Fortunately, I have picked my top three Marietta bars for the conclusion of this weeks Food Findings Extravaganza.

I felt it necessary to label these watering holes from Most Likely to Have a Clean Bathroom - to Least Likely. Let's just jump right on in:

I know you're probably thinking, "I thought that was a restaurant?" And you would be correct in your thinking. What you might not know is how deceptive this restaurant may be and how spotlessly clean their bathrooms are.

If you are not familiar with the Cajun inspired, deliciousness that is Willie Rae's on the Marietta Square, then take note to find time to eat there. While the food is wonderful and boasts items such as shrimp and crab enchiladas, gumbo, and fresh fish catches of the day, the bar has the true potential here.

Friendly service, extra large wine pours, inexpensive wine prices, and colorful artwork to ease your progressing ADD, this local bar landed themselves on this list for being plain awesome. The general crowd might be slightly more mature than my age range due to the "after work courthouse hangout" appeal, but I'd say that this place could be well on its way to best bar in town, if only they would stay open past 11pm!

Final note - while most of the drinks are well under Atlanta price ranges, stick to wine and liquor - the beer is not so cheap.

Willie Rae's Bar
All of those who have worked at White Water have been keeping a big secret from the rest of us. One of the cheapest, biggest, and hoppin'-est places in Marietta has to be Mazzy's Sports Bar & Grill. I have known about this place for a while, and let me say, there are not many places in town like it.

Located off of Roswell Road near Lemon Grass (and the loop), Mazzy's serves up great bar food, is never too crowded to wait for a drink, and actually has room for more than one pool table! The drinks are cheap and the people are local, so go, enjoy, but watch out for the Fraternity/Sorority nights (KSU students) because those can be a real doozey!

2 Monkeys Tavern

Finally, I get to the post that I have deemed to be "The Least Likely to Have a Clean Bathroom" bar find. Two Monkey's Tavern sits right off of Whitlock Avenue, oh so very close to my favorite Greek hangout, Nik's. Hunkered into a shopping corner where the old Gabrielle's used to be, 2MT cuts right to the point.

This is a place to have a beer, listen to some classic rock, test your pool skills, and inhale enough second hand smoke to send your lungs screaming. I have played darts, watched 3 hour poker tournaments, eaten flaming hot (and excellent) french fries, all while waiting on my turn to play some billiards. Even though the bathroom may be sub-par to my expectations, the eclectic crowd and not so shy bar staff will certainly satisfy your need to get out of the house!
